France confirmed their favorite status by winning the blitz chess match, 3-1, on the first day. But the French delights ended up here. On the following days the Indonesian team stunned the French, 10-6 in the rapid. In the classical, France succumbed to defeat by about the same margin. Altogether Indonesia beat France 20.5-15.5.

7th National Games, Surabaya 1969

The more the merrier. Pekan Olahraga Nasional (National Games) or PON held the chess event for the very first time. It was certainly warm welcomed by chess enthusiasts all over Indonesia. No less than 152 players of 25 provinces took part. Up to the year of 1969 it went down in history as the biggest in term of the number of participants.

17th Asian Cities Team Championship, Jakarta 2011

Twenty four cities from seventeen countries participated in this event. Total players was 116 with 18 GMs, 2 WGMs, 11 IMs, and 1 WIM. GM Wesley Barbasa So (2667), GM Yú Yāngyī (2652), GM Lǐ Chāo (2646), GM Murtas Kazhgaleyev (2618), and GM Ehsan Ghaem Maghami (2606) were the top rated players.

East Java Provincial Team Championship, Probolinggo 1981

Eight teams from cities/regencies of East Java province battled for Percasi Cup. As predicted Surabaya team won the cup. The only team who gave them a fierce challenge was Jember. Surabaya performance was highly boosted by their third board player, Machfud. Machfud excelled from the rest of pack by scoring 100%.

Central Java Provincial Team Championship, Ungaran 2002

Semarang City team won the event. It was no surprise since the team practically fielded the best players in Central Java: Joko Santoso, Nursiyo, Jumadi, Saiful Fajar, and Marwanto. The event was held in Ungaran, a capital city of Semarang Regency. The city is famous as one of culinary destinations in Central Java.

DKI Jakarta Team for PON Tryouts, Jakarta 1981

The tryouts involved three clubs and two DKI Jakarta teams. The members of DKI Jakarta PON (Pekan Olahraga Nasional or National Games) team were IM Ardiansyah, Sutan Aritonang, Sarwan Ginting, Herman Kusnadi, and Denny Juswanto. Ardiansyah didn’t participate in these tryouts since he was playing abroad.
