Twenty one years old Denny Juswanto became the champion of DKI Jakarta for the second time. The first was in 1973 when he was only 14 years of age. The win was decided in the ultimate round when he beat Fabian Lumentut. The future Indonesian ace Utut Adianto had no better than 13th place.

1st Asian Masters Circuit 3rd Leg, Jakarta 1981

Indian Raja Ravi Sekhar won the event. The best Indonesian players, Edhi Handoko, IM Ardiansyah, and Benny Kileng, could only grab runner up positions. For the host players Syarif Mahmud and Achmad Fauzi, the tournament was their first international appearance. Both players had respectable places on the table.

Indonesian hopeful young player, a high school student Darmayanti D Tamin, failed to win the event. She had to be satisfied with runner up position to the champion Imasniti with 1.5 points cushion. The failure didn’t stop Darmayanti winning Women National Championship 1980 at Salatiga two months later.

Japfa Classic Open, Denpasar 2000

The tournament was the open version of Japfa Classic Chess Tournament which was held several days earlier at the same city. Four overseas players were in pole positions: GM Darmen Sadvakasov, GM Nordmund Miezis, GM Buenaventura Villamayor, and GM Jaan Ehlvest. Kazakhstani Sadvakasov had the best tie-break.

8th Telkom Open, Bandung 2006

FM Awam Wahono lost to FM Anjas Novita in the ultimate round. This loss made the two players plus IM Nathanael Situru to have same VP, 8.5. Based on PS Wahono and Situru ranked first and second respectively. To decide the eventual winner Wahono and Situru played a play-off of two 5-minute blitz games which was won by Wahono.

21st Indonesia National Women Championship, Batam 2006

WFM Irene Kharisma Sukandar marked her era in Indonesian women chess by winning the event in convincing fashion. This was her first national champion title. Many pundits predicted that her reign as Indonesian Chess Queen would be untouchable for many years to come since she was only fourteen years old at that time.
