7th Telkom Open Chess Tournament, Bandung 2005

During 2000-2006 Denny Juswanto had been reaching the peak of his chess career. He practically won the tournament after edging out his nearest contender Susanto Megaranto in round 9th. Along with Japfa Open, Telkom Open is an open chess tournament with the highest prize and number of participants in Indonesia.

Enerpac Junior Chess Masters Star Wars, Jakarta 2005

Many talented young players participated in this U20 event. Some of them soon developed to be the best in their respective age groups. Surya Wahyudi became U20 national champion. Kaisar Hakiki also held U18 national champion title. Urbanus Gokok and Aris Hariyanto had the same titles under their belts. The event was won by Sandy Kurniawan.

19th Indonesia National Chess Championship Finals, Jakarta 1980

Edhi Handoko successfully defended his National Champion title from two years ago but it was not easy by all means. He had to suffer defeats in the hands of Iskandar Arif and Ronny Gunawan. This event also served as selection of Indonesian team’s members for Chess Olympiad 1980 at Malta.

Jakarta Invitational Chess Tournament, Jakarta 2000

This is a rather unique event with two engines amongst 16 participants, Fritz 6 by the duo programmer Frans Mörsch and Mathias Feist, and Rebel by Ed Schröder. Nathanael Situru won the event. Situru started with loss to Fritz 6 but he recovered immediately winning all the rest of games.

Borislav Kostić Chess Exhibition, Klaten 1925

Borislav (Bora) Kostić was a famous chess GM from Yugoslavia (now Serbia). During 1923–1926, Kostić had been traveling from Siberia to Australia. Indonesia was no exception. A game from one of his exhibitions is presented here. The game is between him and HCD de Boeck.
