This event was a battle between two young players, 13-year-old WFM Irene Sukandar and 15-year-old WGM Anya Sun Corke. Despite the age difference Sukandar showed to Corke that she was more than worthy opponent. Corke leveled the scoreline after a hard fought victory in the last round. Corke then emerged as the Hong Kong number one. She has played on the first board for Hong Kong Olympiad men team.

The match between Indonesian young star GM Susanto Megaranto and the best Vietnamese player GM Đào Thiên Hải ended sharing the spoil 3-3. Đào lost the first two games before took over the lead in the end of the match. It was still a tie, 1-1, in the next two blitz games. The Vietnamese GM finally dispatched Susanto in a sudden death.

WIM Jana Krivec and WGM Nana Alexandria came out on top. Indonesia hopeful young talent WFM Irene Kharisma Sukandar respectfully claimed third place. The experienced Sri Vidawati was supposed to be less than happy to find her self at tenth place out of 12 players. This was her last appearance in an international event to date.

Indonesia registered the country’s 8 best players, excluding GM Utut Adianto, out of 12 participants in this event. Unfortunately no one could manage to claim the champion trophy. The only girl IM Antoaneta Stefanova of Bulgaria saw off the competition, scored 1.5 points above his nearest contender Indonesian’s IM Cerdas Barus.
