Q & A
Q
How I download games?
A

Look for the left icon on each post then click it.
Q
Finally I can download a PGN file but I can’t load it to ChessBase, or other PGN reader. What’s wrong?
A
Nothing is wrong. We set all PGN files to have UCS-2 Little Endian text format on purpose. Generally PGN readers can only read ANSI format. Here is the workaround. Open the PGN file with WordPad then click ‘save as’ menu. Save the PGN file as ‘Text Document’ format. Now open the newly saved PGN file with your favourite PGN reader.
Q
Why do you use ‘unicode text’ not just usual text format?
A
We want to display player names as accurate as possible. Consider these: Đàng Vu Dũng, Yè Jiāngchuān, Từ Hoàng Thông. It is impossible the display these player names without unicode text format.
Q
Ok but I want to download all games at once in a single file. Is there any way to do that?
A
That needs a little effort from your part. Go to IndonesiaBase fan page on Facebook then click the Like button. Obviously you have to be a Facebook member first. After you have become a fan then email your Facebook user name to games at indonesiabase dot com with your request.
Q
Is that possible to replay games online?
A

Of course. Click this icon on each post.
Q
I have clicked that lousy icon many times and nothing happened.
A
You need to clear your browser cache to force the browser to reload the page.
Q
How do I send games?
A
You may send games via email to games at indonesiabase.com (replace at with @). It would be better if you send them as an attachment. Please make sure that the games are nowhere in IndonesiaBase. If they are, you believe that the games will be better versions or corrections to the existing games. Don’t forget to mention the source(s), and games’ details such as event and date as complete as possible.
Q
Do you have preference for game format?
A
Basically we accept all kind of game formats: text, ChessBase, NIC, CA, etc. But we will be happy if the games have already been in PGN format.
Q
What scope of games is accepted in IndonesiaBase?
A
We accept games in various scopes, international, national, and even regional events. For regional events, the scope is at least level 2 regions, i.e. city or kabupaten. The event must not be part of internal event, i.e. limited to a company, institution, etc. We don’t have problems with classifications: veteran, U10, elementary schools, etc. All are fine by us.
Q
I don’t have any email. How do I get one?
A
Many sites on the net offer free email. One of them is Yahoo.
Q
What program is suitable to store or to edit games in electronic format?
A
ChessBase’s products such as Junior, Fritz, and of course ChessBase are easy to use. If you like free version you may try ChessBase Lite. You can download it at ChessBase. Other great and free programs are Scid, CDB, and ChessPad.
Q
I have Indonesian games but I don’t have time to convert them to electronic format. Can I send their copies to IndonesiaBase’s surface address?
A
In this case please contact us via email beforehand. We will treat all copies sent to us with care. If the sender want them back, we will send to sender’s address as soon as possible.
Q
Is the site periodically updated?
A
Currently we update the site at least once a week. But the updates definitely depend on the games supply. Hope they keep on coming.
Q
According to sitemap event A or B is updated, but I can’t tell the difference from the old one. So what do you mean by updates?
A
In this case the updates are done in zip PGN files not in excerpt or narration of events. Updates can be addition, deletion of games, or some minor changes such as correction to scores or player’s names (we do it often).
