1st Tri Dharma Cup, Bojonegoro 1995

Bojonegoro, a city in East Java, held a national chess event for the first time. The event drew attentions of 80 players from five provinces. The players came from East Java, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, Bali, and West Nusa Tenggara. The first three provinces practically sent their strongest players.

6th Japfa Festival Women International, Jakarta 2011

Georgian WGM, Sopiko Guramishivili, claimed the championship trophy of the 6th Japfa Festival Women International on October 28th 2011 after collecting 6.5 VP in ten rounds. Sopiko edged out the other five players. The chess event was contested in double tound robin since October 23rd at Kartika Chandra Hotel, Jakarta.

DKI Jakarta Provincial Championship, Jakarta 1995

The event was almost a mirror of the National Championship with the exception of the absences of GM Utut Adianto and FM Ruben Gunawan. It also served as a preliminary selection of that year National Championship Qualification. Thirty players would go to a further selection to represent the province.

Jakarta GMs, Jakarta 1986

The event is the most successful chess tournament held in Indonesia to date in term of producing GM norms. Three players who had the honour were IM Ardiansyah, IM Utut Adianto, and IM Ronny Gunawan. Ardiansyah nailed his second and last GM norm. He also shared the first place with Yugoslav GM, Petar Popović.

Wahono Cup, Jakarta 1982

The famous Tanah Karo chess player, Monang Sinulingga, quite predictably won the tournament. He played professionally. He didn’t push against the in-form players but was an absolute menace to players in the bottom ten. Monang completed his victory with the Best Game Award for his beautiful win to Fabian Lumentut in round 3.

2nd Indonesia Open, Jakarta 2012

Chinese are coming. Led by their first string players, GM Yú Yāngyī and GM Lǐ Chāo, China conquered the second edition of Indonesia Open Chess Championship. Yú and Lǐ, the last year winner, shared the top honour with 7.5 VP each. The third place belonged to 7 players with 6.5 VP including the top seed GM Ivan Sokolov of the Netherlands.
