Irene Sukandar-Almira Skripchenko Match, Bekasi 2016

The match produced only one decisive game played in a classical time control in round 2 which was won by the Indonesian player. The other games ended in draws. With the results IM Irene Kharisma Sukandar beat IM Almira Skripchenko 2.5-1.5. Sukandar stayed humble as always. She said to a reporter afterwards that Skripchenko’s jet lag might contribute to her defeat.

2nd Japfa GMs, Jakarta 2015

The massive Elo rating favourite GM Sergei Tiviakov failed to assert his domination in the 2nd Japfa GMs tournament. He dragged down himself even further by playing a suspicious game against his student IM Irene Kharisnma Sukandar. He lost easily in a Scandinavian game. Tiviakov tried to ward off the suspicion, “I have taught her everything I know about the opening.”

4th Japfa Festival WGMs, Jakarta 2008

Mission accomplished. WIM Irene Kharisma Sukandar successfully registered her first WGM norm. She was assured of the norm after settling for a draw with Slovene WGM Jana Krivec in the last round. Earlier in the half way of the chess tournament the WGM norm prospect looked bleach for the 16-year old Indonesian.
