DKI Jakarta Provincial Championship, Jakarta 1995

The event was almost a mirror of the National Championship with the exception of the absences of GM Utut Adianto and FM Ruben Gunawan. It also served as a preliminary selection of that year National Championship Qualification. Thirty players would go to a further selection to represent the province.

2nd Indonesia Open, Jakarta 2012

Chinese are coming. Led by their first string players, GM Yú Yāngyī and GM Lǐ Chāo, China conquered the second edition of Indonesia Open Chess Championship. Yú and Lǐ, the last year winner, shared the top honor with 7.5 VP each. The third place belonged to 7 players with 6.5 VP including the top seed GM Ivan Sokolov of the Netherlands.

FIDE Women Interzonal, Jakarta 1993

The event was part of the Women World Chess Championship 1993-6 cycle. Seven seats were available towards Candidate Matches. The top seeds, GM Pia Cramling and GM Maia Chiburdanidze with their towering ratings, destined to have owned the two seats. The rest of players were going to battle for the left spots.

1st Indonesia Open, Jakarta 2011

Chinese GM with a baby face, Lǐ Chāo won the tournament on a better Solkoff to Anand’s second in the last World Chess Championship, Indian GM Surya Shekhar Ganguly. On the last day of the tournament, round 9, Lǐ beat GM Sandro Mareco while Ganguli couldn’t capitalize anything rather than draw againts the top seed of this event, GM Wáng Yuè.

FIDE Zonal 12, Jakarta 1993

It wasn’t clear who was going to win after the 7th round had finished. No less than 6 players still had realistic chances to win. Three players led with 5 VP: GM Ian Rogers, IM Darryl Johansen, and IM Ruben Rodriguez. Following closely with half a point adrift were FM Cerdas Barus, FM Yang Xian, and GM Utut Adianto. The tension was mounting.

2nd Putra Samarinda, Samarinda 2003

All members of Indonesian team for Bled Chess Olympiad 2002 participated. They were GM Cerdas Barus, IM Ivan Situru, FM Irwanto Sadikin, FM Awam Wahono, Andi Nur Jabal Ahmad, and Susanto Megaranto. Susanto drew the most of spectators’ attentions. At fifteen he was the hottest rising star in Indonesia.
